We are looking for a full time, creatively minded gardener who can bring an eye for detail and hard-working hands to our experienced team; capable of working independently as well as under direction.

You must be capable of independently travelling to and from site or able to meet to share travel at our offices in Killinghall. We are looking for someone with a friendly and approachable demeanour who can work discreetly, upholding our professional appearance and approach at all times.

Your main responsibility is to maintain and develop our gardens to an exceptionally high standard and strong plant knowledge and species-specific pruning skills are essential.

Main duties will include:

  – Propagation

– Weeding

– Irrigation

– Pruning

– Hedge cutting

– Topiary pruning

– Mowing

– Seasonal lawn care

– Planting

– Staking

– Composting

– Pest and disease management


Candidate requirements:

Experience on private estate gardens and an academic horticultural qualification at RHS Level 3 or above/similar as is good physical fitness and can-do attitude regardless of adverse weather.

This is a horticulturally focussed role, with enthusiasm and dedication required alongside a positive attitude and a desire to work with the owners and employees in maintaining a positive, happy environment. You must be commercially aware and be able to pick up on cues from clients with regards to investing in their gardens and upselling and poses the ability to make suggestions for improvements to the gardens we manage.


Experience in kitchen gardening, rose pruning, bed/border management and the safe operation of a range of garden machinery is required.  Applicants must be happy to carry out the physically demanding aspects of the role, such as hedge cutting, as well as the finer aspects such as plant propagation and glasshouse work.

A Spraying license (PA6) is essential along with a full, clean driving license.

As a BALI approved contractor, Grant Horticulture is an independent, award winning, professional horticulture and gardening business based in Harrogate.

Our work includes a variety of prestigious privately-owned gardens plus hospitality and estate clients and due to expansion and our commitment to delivering excellent service we are now looking to recruit experienced Gardeners to the team.

The typical working hours are 0800 – 1600 Monday to Friday with the usual requirements for over time during the spring.

Salary is negotiable and dependent on experience and qualifications.
