Something About Company

From its London base, the Stefano Marinaz Landscape Architecture studio works alongside international architects and designers on projects ranging from small private gardens to larger landscapes, and historical restorations to installations for garden festivals.

Stefano believes that green spaces can both improve the quality of life and foster deeper connections with nature. The Studio’s mission is to create naturalistic gardens that enhance the spirit of place, taking inspiration both from the past and from their context and the ecology of the site.

An expert plantsman, Stefano draws on a rich palette for his planting plans, personally supervising soil preparation and planting, and offering an on going maintenance service.

Local craftsmanship and vernacular materials are key to making each garden both unique and very special. Great attention is paid to the quality of design and construction details.

Stefano Marinaz Studio is proud to be a Kew Patron, actively supporting the work of the Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew.

Kew is home to the largest, most spectacular and globally diverse plant collection in the world. The plants grow in wonderful combinations and an enormous variety of separate and very distinctive garden spaces, where they are set against a backdrop of ancient trees, lakes, follies and glasshouses.

These things are entertaining for the visitor, but Kew is underpinned by rigorous intellectual purpose.

It is internationally renowned as a centre for botanical research, with a particular focus on the conservation of endangered plant species all over the world. The Millennium Seed Bank Partnership conserves seeds as an insurance against extinction in their native habitat, and the herbarium contains over 7 million specimens and plays a central role in research into plant conservation.

Kew’s library is used by students at the School of Horticulture and thousands of visitors every year.

Stefano has a particular connection with Kew. Drawn by his love of plants, he gardened there as an intern shortly after arriving in Britain. He continues to visit Kew regularly with the SMLA team, who use the gardens as an extension to the studio, drawing inspiration from planting schemes and design, observing plants throughout the year, taking photographs and detailed notes.
