What is an Apprenticeship?
With an Apprenticeship most of the training is delivered in the work place, so you will learn the skills you need to do the job, this will be supported by regular college visits.
Giving you the required knowledge, practical skills and the confidence you need for a successful career whilst earning a salary.
Can anyone apply to the Apprenticeship programme?
If you live in England, are over 16 and not in full time education you can apply for an Apprenticeship.
How long does an Apprenticeship last?
All Apprenticeships last for a minimum of one year, the length of the Apprenticeship depends on your age, prior skills and the level you are following.
As a guide, an Intermediate Apprenticeship (Level 2) usually takes around 12 to 18 months and an Advanced Apprenticeship (Level 3) around 24 months.
Do I have to be employed to be an apprentice?
You will need to be employed (for 30 hours a week or more) to start an Apprenticeship, but we will help you find and apply for a job.
It is possible to apply for an Apprenticeship without having an employer but you will not be able to start on a programme until you are employed full-time.
Who pays for the training?
The employer pays for the training fee.
What about wages?
All apprentices are employed and have a contract of employment. Ideally, a salary should be offered that reflects the job role and the skills and experience of the candidate, whilst recognising the training opportunity being offered. The Apprenticeship Minimum Wage must be paid to all apprentices who are under 19 or in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For those aged 19 and above in the second year of their Apprenticeship the National Minimum Wage applies. For further information, please visit www.gov.uk/national-minimum-wage.
