Job Description:

An opportunity for a Skilled Sole Gardener has arisen on a beautiful private estate in rural West Midlands, approximately 6 miles south of Solihull.  The vacancy would suit an experienced gardener with good plant knowledge, as there will be a chance to put your creative skills to the test.

Created around 1910, the traditional English country garden measures 3.5 acres in total.  The property and garden have recently benefitted from renovation, though there will be further work to be undertaken in the garden itself.  Existing yew hedging, rhododendron, lawns and a pond will require basic maintenance, while the beds/borders require input from the successful candidate once appointed.  The successful applicant should be well-versed in the growing of vegetables, as existing raised beds will require management for the purpose of supplying the owners with produce.  Applicants should be confident and skilled in pruning methods, i.e. of wisteria, roses and fruit trees, as plans are in place to plant and orchard and to establish rose beds in the near future.  The garden is not organic so spray tickets (PA1/PA6) are required, however these may be gained at a later date if necessary.  A chainsaw licence would be beneficial, and experience with a wide range of gardening machinery essential.  The ability to carry out basic machinery maintenance would be very useful, as would an ability to undertake garden handyman duties.  A full driving licence is required as the property is located in a rural setting.  A brand new one bedroom flat on site is offered, if required, with a salary of £20,000 per annum.  If accommodation is not required, a salary of £25,000 per annum is offered.  The flat is suitable for one or two persons, though it is unfortunately considered unsuitable to accommodate children or pets.

This is a great opportunity to take ownership of a typical English country garden in a rural yet convenient location, with considerable potential.  Applicants therefore must have a positive and confident approach to their work, and be able to play a leading role in the development and ongoing management of a garden project.

Thank you for the interest you have shown in this vacancy.  Unfortunately, due to the high volume of applications that we receive, it is not possible to respond to every one.  Therefore, unless you hear from us within the next 14 days, your application will have been unsuccessful.
